Giroscope was sucessful in bidding in both Round 1 and Round 2 of the Department of Communities and Local Government's Empty Homes Community Grant Programme.  Over the 30 months of the project Giroscope will bring back into use 42 homes.

In particular we are tackling two of Hull's 'cluster' areas: these areas are where there are significant numbers of empty properties - for example at the start of the programme in the Albermarle/Airlie Street area there were over 60 empty properties in an area of 200 homes.  We hope that through the combined effort of Hull City Council, landlords and other community organisations such as ourselves that many of these properties will be brought back into use to regenerate the area and make it once again a thriving neighbourhood.

March 2012

We have already completed the renovation of 6 houses - empty a total of 33 years, 4 months!

July 2012

Giroscope has just finished the 10th house bringing the total period of time the properties were empty to 70 years 6 months!

Giroscope's Housing Pledge

  • So long as the conditions of the tenancy are met, you have the right to remain in your home for as long as you wish.
  • Giroscope will not sell your house, or transfer ownership to another landlord so long as you are a tenant of that house.
  • Giroscope will not borrow money against its property in a way that endangers the financial stability of the organisation and puts your home at risk.
