Caroline’s Blog

Over the last 6 years I have been involved in Giroscope’s work bringing over 50 empty properties back into use and I have been developing Giroscope’s groundbreaking self-build project to create new, affordable homes, provide training and help regenerate the neighbourhood where we are based.

I have been fortunate to have been awarded a grant from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust to fund a travelling fellowship to research innovative and sustainable approaches to providing affordable housing.  In particular I’m interested in self-help projects and how organisations use training or create employment opportunities while providing low-cost housing for disadvantaged people.

I’ll be travelling to Canada and the USA over the next few weeks and will be sharing my experience and findings here and over Twitter (@c_gorebooth).
