Trustees

As a Registered Charity, Giroscope is managed by a Board of Trustees who meet quarterly.
They oversee the strategy and financial planning of the organisation. Giroscope believes that rigorous and effective governance is the key to a successful charitable organisation.

Meet the Giroscope Trustees…

Alan Brocklehurst – Alan is a Chartered Accountant with a wealth of skills and experience in the local and national business community.  He was one of the original group of people that developed the idea of Giroscope in 1984.  Alan has nearly 40 years’ experience in accountancy.  For two years he was president of the ICAEW Humberside & District Society of Chartered Accountants, representing the region at a national level. He now splits his time between accountancy and running a large local manufacturing business and its holding company.

Dr. Aviv Kruglanski – Aviv is post-doctoral research associate (PDRA) at the Energy and Environment Institute (University of Hull), working on the Pursuing Climate Resilience and Net Zero Hull project (November 2023-July 2024, funded by UKRI). He has a PhD in management (2022, University of Hull), an MA in digital arts (2001, Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and a BFA (1996, School of the Art Institute of Chicago). He is core-group member of the Community Economies Institute (CEI), a member of the Community Economies Research Network (CERN) and of the EMES network for the research of social enterprise. He previously served as PDRA on Yorkshire and Humber Policy Innovation Partnership (June 2023 to September 2023), Local Area Coordination (February 2022 to June 2023, Funded by the NIHCR), MoVE-Mobilising Volunteers Effectively (February 2022 to June 2023, funded by ESRC) and Curiosity Partnership (February 2022 to June 2023 funded by NIHCR). His personal research projects include Unlikely Entrepreneurs (funded through UKRI HEIF funding) and Wild Yeast Economies (funded through a scholarship from the University of Hull). He is co-founder/co-director of 3 Stages of Succession (Hull, UK/international), founder of Centro de Cultivos Contemporaneos del Barrio (Barcelona, Spain), and was a member of Las Agencias (Barcelona, Spain).  Aviv has previously carried out art projects and community engagement events in and around our organisation.

Holly Galbraith – Holly joined the Board of Trustees in 2020 following a period volunteering at Giroscope in 2011 assisting with the preparation of our successful LEAF and Empty Homes Fund bids. As an experienced Architect based in London (albeit originally from Hull), she brings a wealth of built environment, planning, bid writing and construction knowledge to the team.  Holly was an Associate at Niall McLaughlin Architects for 9 years, leading a series of complex, award-winning projects across heritage, higher education, schools and private residential sectors and fulfilling new work/bids, resourcing, staff training and internal operations managerial activities. In 2022 she was awarded the RIBA [South] Project Architect of the Year for her involvement in the Master’s Field Development for Balliol College.  Presently, Holly is Head of Operations at Ventete, a product design and inventions company developing a micro-collapsible cycling helmet utilising strong experience in project and programme delivery, supply chain coordination and contract negotiations.
