Giroscope will use the information you provide on the entry form to administer the Giroscope Photography Competition. We collect the entrant’s name, email address, (or parent, guardian name and email address in the 17 and under category) country of residence, age category, submitted photograph(s) and payment confirmation.
We use this information to confirm entries, process the entry fee, judge the competition, contact winners (parent or guardian in the 17 and under category), award prizes, display selected entries, and promote the competition. We will not add entrants to our mailing list unless they separately choose to receive updates.
If the entrant is under 18, they must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter. The entry form should be completed by a parent or guardian.
Giroscope is responsible for looking after the personal information collected for this competition. We use this information because it is needed to run the competition fairly, keep in touch with entrants (parent or guardian in the 17 and under category), judge entries, award prizes, and share selected photographs as part of the competition.
Entrants keep copyright in their photographs. By entering, you permit Giroscope to use submitted images for judging, exhibition, website, social media, printed materials, press, publicity and other activities connected with the competition. This permission allows Giroscope to continue showing selected or winning images as part of the competition archive and future publicity.
If your photograph includes identifiable people, you must have their permission, or parent/guardian permission where they are under 18.
Your name and photograph(s) may be shared with the competition judges and with trusted people or organisations helping us run or promote the competition, such as designers, printers, exhibition partners or website support. We will only share what is needed. We will not share your contact details publicly with your photograph.
If your entry is shortlisted or selected, Giroscope may carry out reasonable checks using publicly available information. This may include looking at public websites, public social media profiles, or other public records. This would only be done where it is relevant to the competition, for example to help confirm an entrant’s identity, check eligibility, or protect the safety and reputation of the competition.
We will keep entry information for up to 12 months after the competition closes, except where we need to keep limited payment or accounting records for legal reasons. Winning, shortlisted or selected images may be kept for longer as part of our competition archive, exhibition record and publicity history, so that photographers can continue to be credited for their work.
You can contact us about your personal data at info@giroscope.org.uk. You can read our full privacy policy on our website.
